Wizzle was born in Europe (Germany) of Latvian parents. English is Wizzle's second language, Latvian being the first. Wizzle also stumbles along in Spanish and German. Wizzle has lived in California since the age of six (about 45+ years ago), has pretty well covered the West Coast and a good portion of the USA over that period of time. With parents who loved to travel and as an only child, Wizzle got to go lots of places from the age of 5.....it was probably cheaper than trying to figure out how to leave a Wizzle at home. Wizzle also managed to get a degree in Design (after the first one in Econ), has a very strong interest in art and architecture, and will try to share some of that knowledge during the tours. Recently, the cruise bug has struck at Chez Wizzle and a train bug seems imminent. These developments expanded not only travel horizons, per se, but also presented the challenge of traveling with an aged (if very spry) parent.........MOM is 81!!! So look for comments about how well cruise and tour lines deal with the elderly.
Wizzle's only child, the Prince, has all the tiresome exhuberance of youth but can be counted on to add ideas about what's fun and what's not.....especially when it comes to ski resorts. He is on the UCLA ski team and has had some great opportunities to check out the best places to ski. The only problem is, Wizzle can't seem to get him to pack a camera on his trips......so we'll go with word of mouth for ski info until we can waddle up ourselves to here and there. Wizzle is on the apres ski team. No need to hazard life and limb when the whole idea is to get to the happy hour at the end of the day and survive to write about the "adventures.".
What is the point of Wizzle Tours?
Wizzle Tours brings a personal perspective to the travel experience. Wizzle is old enough to remember both the good and bad of the "good old days" of travel. The "bad" includes touring in cars without air conditioning, no interstates and (((shudder))) no McDonald's. Travel was for the hardy!! Well....OK......maybe not so much for the hardy as for the sweaty, tired and determined. The "good" in those bygone days was far less crowding and more personal attention. We hope to have a historical travel section in the future if we can figure out how to cheaply scan slides.
And anyway.....most virtual tours are really crummy when it comes to pictures. Our tours are defintely graphically intense so that you can see, as well as hear, about the cruise ships, train stations, places visited, etc. Wizzle "squashes" the file size of the pictures as much as she can, but refuses to do without lots of pictures. Graphics are one of the real joys of the web.
Wizzle also has a Black Belt in shopping and can steer you to Los Angeles do's and don'ts. Also, Wizzle has an opinion about nearly everything. It is fun to share travel experiences, especially trips to distant places like Italy and Hong Kong. Wizzle is a dedicated arm chair traveler when the real thing isn't available and would love to hear your travel adventures.
What the Heck Kind of Name is Wizzle?
Wizzle is my nom de plume, nom de fractal and nom de web. It is a play on my last name which is very long and has almost no letters besides w, z and l (I am consonant deprived). Under severe pressure from the Prince to provide a nickname which he could type into some program when he was setting me up on IRC low those many years ago, I blurted out "wizzle" and that's what I've been ever since. There is undoubtedly deep significance to this choice of nick, but I'm completely baffled by what that might be.
Are You for Real?
Of course I'm for real!!! Who do you think types up all this
junk and takes the pictures......not to mention paying for the trips and
the Prince's tuition? If you are asking if Wizzle Tours Limited (very limited)
is for real....well...no, in the traditional sense, it is not. The
company is a figment of my demented imagination. I am not associated in
any way with any commercial tour company, travel agency, airline, shop,
cruise line or much of anything else. I work in aerospace. AND......I'm
totally incorruptible.......so the reviews you see are my unbiased opinions.
I'm not saying I won't ever take a bribe, but it has to be a bribe that
is at least equal in value to a cruise around the world in a suite on a
five star ship. I mean, if I'm to become a scum bucket, I think it
ought to be in return for something I can't afford to buy for myself. To
date, no one has tried to bribe me with even minor gifts, so my travel
and shopping reviews are still pristine.
