Rendering
Demo
by Wizzle
This page downloads slowly because I used very large files so details
would remain in tact for the demonstration.
UltraFractal provides several ways to change a UF file to a format that
can be used either to print the image or to prepare the image for viewing
on the web.
-
The image can be made in UF at the size required (up to 1600 pixels)
then exported directly as a jpg, bmp, psd, png or tga image. To do
this click on "file/export"
-
An image can be rendered to disk in any size required. To do this
click "fractal/render to disk"
The choice of method will depend on how the final image should look.
In most cases, rendering to disk will improve the image because this option
utilizes the anti-aliasing feature built into UF. Anti-aliasing
will smooth out jagged edges and will remove unwanted details. In
example 1, below, you will see jagged edges and a lot of messy detail in
the exported version of the image. This is about what you will see
on your monitor if you are in the UF program itself. And if you do,
this is a hint that rendering to disk will help your image look better
printed or posted to the www. Sometimes an image is so sloppy looking
in UF that it needs to be anti-aliased several times. The quickest
way to do this is to render the image larger than the final desired size
and then re-sample the image in a graphics program such as Paint Shop Pro
or Photoshop. You can also adjust the render to disk settings
in UF, but this can slow down the render considerably.
There are situations where you do not want details to be removed, as
in example 2, below. The dots in that image are meant to convey lights
at night. These are rendered into oblivion using UF's render to disk.
In those cases where you want to preseve fine detail, use the export method.
Example 1 - Jagged Edges and "Mess" Removed
Rendered up to 1600 x 1600 then compressed in PSP to 600 x 600 jpg
Exported as 600 x 600 jpg from UF
Example 2 - Details Removed
Exported as 640 x 480 jpg file from UF
Rendered to 1600 x 1200 then reduced to 640 x 480 file
