Gumbycat Tweaks Wizzle

My friend Gumbycat joins me for an exploration of the artistic possibilities within an image.  The objective was to add our interpretations to fractals started by the other person and thus explore our individual styles. The comments by the "tweaker"  are meant to give you some idea of what it is like to work on a fractal image.  Sometimes it's straightforward and sometimes it's darn hard work. But it's always fun.  The images were made and altered using the UltraFractal Program, which allows very sophisticated modulation of fractal parameters as well as the use of multiple layers.

Wizzle's Originals    Gumbycat's Tweaks

Rapunzel in Green

Can you see her long green hair falling down the stairwell? I liked Wizzle's "Circuit" so much that I had a hard time changing it. I finally deleted her first and third layers. Working only with the second layer, I changed the function, added a new identical layer and rotated it 90 degrees right. I repeat this process until I had 4 identical layers that formed an equal square. I especially like the way her colors became richer and richer with each "tweak."

Spot Lights

This was the first time I used Mark's fBm Popcorn Trap coloring algorithm. I'm hooked! To tell you the truth, I don't know what I changed. The functions and an additional layer or two for certain. The other parameters - a tweak here, a tweak there. And I moved it from the Wizzle range of rich burgundy and purple to Gumbycat-oranges. This was fun!

Oval Garden

Working on this Wizzle image took a great deal of restraint. The harlequin spiral lended itself perfectly to any coloring algorithm I changed or added. In the end, I made no change to her first layer. I changed the function, merge mode, and gradient file in her second layer, and I replaced the ucl file in the third layer. When I was done, I zoomed in slightly to eliminate a color blur on one edge.

Burgundy Lace

I changed the gradient file in Wizzle's first layer, made a minor change in the gradient file of the second layer, and replaced the ucl file in her third layer. When I was done, I zoomed in and focused on one of the spirals.

(P.S. This is my favorite tweak - wizzle)

(I think she likes it because those are her colors - gumbycat)

lla_Mystic

I like the feeling of movementWizzle's original had, and I think I lost some of that in my tweak. Mine is more static. It bristles, like fins on a tropical fish. In the first layer, I made one minor change in the parameters of the ucl file Wizzle used, and modified her gradient file. In the second. I made one VERY minor change in the gradient file she used, and changed the merge mode. I replaced the third layer's ucl file.

Storm at Sea: I moved this fractal from the forest to the bottom of the sea.

In Wizzle's first layer, I made a colormap change. I replaced her other three layers.

When I was playing with this one, I started using transformations, masks, and zooming around, and ended up with some very surprising differences! They beg the issue "derivative work or original image?"
